Downscale Riva plans. Will it cause problems?

Scaling it down is fraught with difficulty of every kind. As for the freeboard worry of the other design, you have to factor in that the scaled down boat might have an unexpected loss of freeboard if loaded up with passengers, on its reduced "footprint", particularly the reduced beam.

You have a lot of reason but, in my opinion, you should not comment on a job, the NA, that you totally ignore. Well, sorry, you can say what you want, of course, but it is not easy that you can appreciate the difficulty of the unknown.

I am bemused that a supposedly premium name brand boat would be available as plans to back-yard builders, rather than a tightly-held in-house property. What is the story there ?

There are lines plans from some of the really old models available. However, to compare a Glen-L with a Riva shows that the OP has little or no knowledge of boatbuilding. The first is something you can build with minimal skills. A Riva can only be built by an accomplished shipwright. The fine finish and cabinetry is beyond the average shipwright too.

Uhm, this got a little out of hand... I'm not comparing the glen-l to the Riva. I know how much better the riva is, and that is the reason I would rather build a Riva designed hull than a Glen-l. But since I've never built a boat before (only repaired old clinker boats), I ask dumb questions here, so I dont fall in to pitfalls. That's the last thing I wanna do.

That's right! I'm just trying to find a design of a boat that's pleasing to MY eye, and that I can build my self. Because I like the process of building things.

You can make the transformation that seems most timely of any boat. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is not enough to change the scale, but the new project will have to be adapted to the new dimensions and the new SOR you define.

I think the hardest thing NA would have scaling down Riva is 'same-not same' game. It will look different in proportions once scaled down, so there will be a lot of discussion with client on 'why it does not look the same?'.
Technically, there is absolutely no problem to scale it down. However, the client should be prepared to some changes in proportions. If he is prepared to accept it, there is no problem.
Say, if length is scaled by factor 1.3, beam and freeboard will be scaled approximately by 1.3^0.7.
