We have two cats and if you ever tried to put em on a boat Im sure it would be a blood bath. They hate visitors and I probably should have insurance on them on the off chance some little kid tries to get friendly with em.

They are mean, smelly, dangerous and pretty much piss on anyone's stuff but mine

not sure what the girl see's in em but I sure am glad they like me, otherwise there would be two stuffed cats standing in the corner as an example others

    cheers

There are no eccentric cats, they're all like that. Or maybe there are no normal cats.

Years ago, there was a guy who did a regular column in Woodenboat Magazine (he may still be doing it; I don't have a subscription any more). He lived aboard a boat he was rebuilding, and had a cat. I still remember the issue in which he managed to insult two of people's favorite critters in one sentence: "cats are almost as dumb as a smart horse.":p

Horses are smarter than you'd think: did you ever see one on a boat?

....looks like the horse is saying." I am sick of you cat...be gone"...as he throws him overboard (where he belongs anyhow....this thread is about DOGS....mans best friend, not some scrounging feline subject.....

well Ive had all three and I must say I find each to be far more intelligent than what most give them credit for

my buddies dog I was hanging out with today is about the smartest dog going and Im always impressed with watching that dog figure things out.
one of my old horses was seriously stupid with gates but was the best riding horse I ever owned and even the girls cats are showing signs of real intelligence when they decided to piss on everyone else's stuff rather than mine, cause Im serious about having them stuff and stood in the corner if they ever even think about nailing any of my stuff.

    cheers

I thought I'd ever read something about Horse Powered Ferries. So 'Google Images' on ‘‘horse ferry’’ gave me this:

    And: Research on Horse-Powered Ferryboats.

    Sorry Landlubber, nothing on Dog Powered Ferries . . . . :D

    Cheers!

I recall crossing a small river on a ferry like that, but it had been modernised, with a steam engine. Yeah, I know, but it was a long time ago. It didn't use paddles, though, there was a chain (or maybe 2 chains) across the river that it pulled itself across. Wish I had had taken a photo, but no camera. I believe the fare was 4d, that's old English pence; I did say it was a long time ago, didn't I? That would be worth about 4 cents today, but it could buy a cup of coffee at a cheap canteen back then so maybe 75c is closer. I don't remember any dogs, but I worried about the look of the skipper.

...the gear connection would have one of the paddles going the other way....

    my feelings exactly

speaking of which I was over at another friends house today (white guy) and he has two snapping snarling pit bulls
and he stands there telling me "they are just fine"
    "dont worry about it"
    "come on in"

    "forget it" I told him

"lock those things up" somewhere and dont subject your guests to even the possibility

makes me wish I had a hand gun on me just in case they got out of the room he put them in.

thats just to turn the thing around
they had the buggy in the middle just run real fast and then stop a few times to get that thing across the river
