apex1 you are right i bought one for my dog year's ago they work great, at least on lake michigan. a lot of under currents here kill people every year. someone even washed up on my wife's parent's beach last year. tragic, that they don't take the precautions to prevent this when it's in the news every summer

    10 Canine Commandments
1: My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. ANY SEPARATION FROM YOU WILL BE PAINFUL TO ME. Remember that before you buy me.
2:GIVE ME TIME TO UNDERSTAND what you want from me.
3:pLACE YOUR TRUST IN ME.it's crucial to my well-being.
4:DON'T BE ANGRY WITH ME for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entrainment and your friends. I only have you.
5:TALK TO ME SOMETIMES. Even if i don't understand your words, i understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
6:Be aware that however you treat me. I'LL NEVER FORGET IT.
7:Remember before you hit me: i have teeth that could easily crush the bones of your hand, but I CHOOSE NOT TO BITE YOU.
8:Before you scold me for being un-cooperative, obstinate or lazy, ASK YOURSELF IF SOMETHING MIGHT BE BOTHERING ME. Perhaps, i'm not getting the right food, or i've been out in the sun to long, or my heart is getting old and weak
9:TAKE CARE OF ME WHEN I GET OLD. You too will grow old.
10GO WITH ME ON DIFFICULT JOURNEYS. Never say: i can't bear to watch, or let it happen in my absence. Everything is easier for me if you are there

11: I may have to bite you on occasion, or chew up the things you value most.

-It is just to prepare you for the pain you will see in life and teach you that all things you love will pass from you, including me.-

12: Sometimes I will jump into your lap and throw up my breakfast.

    -I don't know what that's all about.-

Just rescued my new buddy. I have had him for 2 months now and we are inseperable. He was treated very poorly by my neibors down here in Mexico. He would bite everyone who walked by but not my wife and I. I finally asked the family if I could take him when he was tied up with barbed wire dug into his neck and no shade or water. After pulling 100 ticks out of his ear and twice that off his body and cleaning his cuts and taking him to the vet he is a new dog. Already loves everyone and is my shadow. The family asked why I would want something like that and why he doesn't bite anymore. I tried to explain to them that not hitting your dog and taking care of it is understood by the dog. They laughed and called me a stupid gringo. This is the second dog we have taken from them. The first almost died of dehydration but has a new happy home and the third unfortunatly didn't make it.

I feel so fortunate to have such a great dog now. Also he does throw up in my truck and we are about to drive back to vancouver island, Yuck....

no, we don't wash dishes with him, we wash the windows with him. that little dog can spend a week onboard with out any accidents, we just pull in to beach once a day and off he goes. loves swimming. one of the best dogs we have had.
