Man overboard in North Pacific

The Clipper RTW race is one of the few races that ventures across the North Pacific. Like the Southern Ocean, the northern Pacific can be very, very dangerous. Just today I received word of a man overboard (MOB). The tale is harrowing:

-Occurred just a split second before he could attach his safety line
-Hit in the head by a rudder
-Very heavy seas
-Frigid water temps
-Pummeled by hail storm
-Almost lost...took ~40 minutes to find & recover him.

No question his survival suit and perhaps some extra body weight helped keep his core temp from dropping faster than it did. He suffered hypothermia, but appears to be recovering.
