Difference between Class rules, Flags and conventions.

    Maybe we have dragged this off the OP's topic and down into the grains of sand. To answer the question which to use, you flag state or the primary sponsor will set the required legal code or class rules to use. Often the financer will set a higher requirement so the vessel is saleable if the primary owner defaults. In the USA, the vessel must meet US CFR Title 33 and CFR Title 46 as well as the class society (ABS, GL, DNK, etc...).

    Following on from JEH..

    This should be stated very clearly in the technical specification of the vessel. It should state the Class and Flag rules to which the vessel is designed to satisfy. Simple as that.
