    Fuel Oil Burning Gas Turbines,

    Looks like the fuel efficiency for these small gas turbines is very poor compared to reciprocating Diesel engines. They cost plenty too. Add in all the difficulties of ducting, gear reduction, etc., why bother? Until maybe you get into the 1000 HP plus regime.

    run a gen set on the turbine then electric propulsion so get over the gearbox issue

    Turbines have a great power to weight ratio. They are ideal for high performance operation.

    gas turbines use a tremendous amount of fuel. The navy and others use them because we buy the fuel.
