Increased the forward buoyancy - and restoring pitch moment. Probably after discovering that "wave piercing" is an artist's concept and not a NA one in reality.

Or there may have been some other regulation change like the 75 vs 84 kg per passanger or a head count issue or reserve bouancy regulation change. <shrug> can't really say just from photos.

Any of these could be quite true as well. I have been able to find out that the vessel was built in China but its unknown where it was designed or by whom or for what conditions....

I'm confused, is the question why was it changed after it was built or why didn't they make them both the same?

We do realise it's two different boats in the photo's shown, right?

Yes we do. In post no 9 you can see the #1 after "surgery" and a second boat, #2, both having the fatter lines fw. The point is seeing/understanding the reality behind BMcF's statement above......

    Okay, cool.

It's definitely me who has missed the point then - and not just boat #2 ...

Looking back, I don’t think it was splash, but probably thousands of pot lines they kept picking up.

So we know they are two different boats, ie, the Mindy 1 and the Mindy 2. The wave piercer is the first.
Do we know for sure the first boat was ever modified? Or was it built as shown? Why does anyone think there was a “screw up”?

Since the new design is flat, the captain could stand their if needed. And it looks like there is a small edge that the captain could shimmy her way to the front. Maybe its simply that.

Besides catching lines I suspect that as in Thailand around tourist resorts they have a lot of traffic which often, due their habit to cut in front other boat bows to get rid of "bad spirits", makes steep waves and wakes hit the bow and cause a lot of spray on passengers..
