    Hi there fellow sailors!

Does anyone know of a software that's not just for designing hulls? One that can also design a ship's bridge, crew quarters, etc?

Rhinoceros 3 is quite capable of doing hulls as well as structure and interior layouts. It's also great for optimizing ergonomics, sight lines, etc. Not as good for hulls as a pure marine-oriented modeller, since it doesn't have built-in hydrostatics etc., but pretty much any shape you can imagine can be modelled somehow with Rhino. With judicious use of layers and polysurfaces, it's quite easy in Rhino to build interiors, cabinetry, berths, the bridge, engines, etc and render the model with various combinations of visibility and cutaways. It's quite an intuitive program to use for this and clearances/interferences are easy to inspect. As a marine design tool, it is best paired with a hydrostatics/dynamics package (I'm looking for a good one myself, so no hints from here) and a conventional CAD program such as AutoCAD for structural detailing and dimensioning.

Alibre Xpress is the free version of Alibre Design, looks like many other 3D parametric solid modellers, and it works OK with Rhino (import the surface as a feature).
