    Tim,
Stand outside the Post Office in Newport, RI on any non-rainy day, and most of the locals walk by. Today was Dave Pedrick, Rodger Martin goes to collect mail most days, Geoff van Gorkom works across the road, Yves Tanton and I work upstairs, Eric Sponberg has retired from the scene (moved to FL), etc., etc.
A pint? Try "Zeldas" or "Asterix and Obelix" most evenings.

You could try the Chespeake Symposium. Full of designers. Most SNAME meetings are likewise full of designers, but they are harder to find with all the commercial folks around. :)
