Different/Unique/Odd/???

It is different. I know nothing about it.

Big hull like that with some ballast probably keeps it planted. Would have to go up on a marine way for maintenance as im doubtful that would work with a travel lift.... but im guessing maintenance and surveys as well as insurance aren't on the forefront of the owner.

 

Looks like someones way to join the Hippie life or something. It does appear to have all the comforts of home. On the downside that thing is going to be in trouble if it ever encounters a serious weather disturbance.

 

Just because you can does not mean you should.
I'd like to know where the waterline was before the additions.

 

Just the quonset on top bothers me. One day the captain gets an idea to put a bunkhouse on top so he can walk up and take a nap?

 

Someone found a free steel hull and had a bunch of old sheds in their back yard. Cheap until it holes from corrosion and you're fined for polluting the bay.

There's some of it still showing at the bow; can't be certain about the rest, but it seems fairly level.
Not that that helps at all ...

 

I now have some more information about the vessel. It's a liveabord been tied up locally for something like a decade or more. The curved roof shed over the wheelhouse is a recent addition which is probably why I did not initially recognize it.

 

Looks like and old 1970s era desco shrimp trawler with some additional structure where the gear used to be. Compared to a big gantry and poles going up in the air, this might not be all that tippy. Certainly sitting near where it would fishing.

Imagine it leans a bit in the wind...

 

It does look like a retired shrimper hull, and as such can carry tremendous loads above the waterline.
I’ve seen many commercial vessels safely return from the grounds with very little freeboard showing.
Probably fine as a dock queen, and obviously never intended to be a passagemaker in current trim!

 

The jouney from the nearby dock to the mooring was its first journey in perhaps a decade.

 

It's masked "Disco Volante " style hydrofoil.

 

I think that would qualify as one of the world's best-kept secrets. ;-)
