mercruiser out drive reverse problem

    Well today was my first attempt to take my new 85 wellcraft boat to the lake well I have no reverse forward will engage but reverse does not work at all when I try reverse it just reves.

    sounds like a bad shift cable but another question is alpha, or bravo
