Not being formally trained in the scientific art of boat design, I would have to disqualify myself.

Hoyt, you are a boatbuilder, so go ahead, you don't need to be a naval architect, and I am sure you have some very good idea how a boat should be.

If it is a powder magazine, I don't expect it to stay dry for very long.

OK, Daniel, I got a little carried away by the joy of the moment. Yes, I can see validity of such a competition as long as the "fix" isn't in by the particular magazine publisher. So much politics go into these things that it can get quite sleazy. Look at what that Prejean girl was put through just for standing up for her beliefs. If that toxicity enters a competition it loses all credibility.

    Very good idea.

One of the really good things about people like Phil Bolger , for example , was that he took the time and effort to explain the "what and why's" of a design.
That has taught many novices a lot .

You never know what will come out of such competition.
The non designer is at a disadvantage of course , and open to ridicule , but guys like Daniel are gentleman enough to correct errors nicely.

Maybe have a pro section within the comp.

Good idea .....would be a great read..
