    Hi!!

I have a question for you..

Supposed that you find a free software in internet that implement a theory(200 pages theory) that interest you.

Could I do a Thesis that describe the use of this software?

It seems to be stupid, but culturally is not stupid because it is a good exercise for me to study a theory and his implementation..

    What you think??

    Thanks a lot!!!

I think that you are describing a user's manual. It may not qualify as a thesis. However, if you use it to design something or organize a business around it, then it is a different story. You could certainly make a thesis on how the implementation of the software affected the rest of your work.

Why don't you discuss that with your supervisor / professor?
He will anyways have the last word about your choice of the subject, regardless of what anybody here might say.

I think that the evaluation of the raw data that ended up in the software would be an valid thesis. However, writing how to use software is a user's manual. If you evaluated and compared several software packages, that may make a thesis.

The data they used to write the software. For example, how much anchors hold, or how much a boat pulls in certain sea conditions.
