    Hello,

I am currently trying to export this canoe design I have from delftship into Solidworks for a project. However, I only have the free version of delftship and I don't think it'll let me save it in the correct file type. I believe I need a STEP or IGES file. Would anyone be willing to use their version of delftship to save it in the correct form and send it back here? I would really appreciate it.

You could try 'saveas' to 3D DXF curves and loft those in SW.
Here is what it would look like in Rhino3D, lofting the green stations and the one end curve:

I was able to get it into this part made up of lines by opening it as the 3D dxf file like you suggested. Is there a way I can fill it in so it looks more like the delftship model? I'm trying to prepare it for a CNC router that uses visual mill and mach3 to cut the mold with.

In the picture I made above, the 'loft' command was used to make a surface defined by the green lines and stopped at the end.

Have you tried the STL output from Delftship straight into VisualMill?
Gray picture is Rhino, blue and yellow is MeshCAM.

It could be possible to go directly from delftship to visualmill, but the issue is that the guy who runs the workshop only has solidworks and knows how to tweak the model in solidworks to fit into the machine. It's kinda hard to explain. It's owned by a university so they're kinda weird about trying new softwares. Also the machine is very finnicky

....but have you tried to export STL or OBJ format directly from DelftShip into SW?

Are you making a male mold, and having to split it in half and/or into layers to fit the CNC machine?

We are doing a male mold, and we cut one half at a time to fit in the CNC router.

I have, but the file just saves as a blank looking file, and it does nothing when I try to open it in solidwords

I was able to read in the OBJ and STL outputs into Solidworks 2022 at the office, and could see the surfaces, etc.
I am not a regular user of Solidworks so I could not explain why it works for me and not for you.

I don't know Solid works at all,but I do know Rhino and CNC cutting of moulds.I am a bit hesitant to recommend yet another piece of software but I think that 3D dxf file would respond quite well in Freecad. It shouldn't be too hard to loft the section shapes and convert to a solid for the generation of the cutting file.I am a bit curious about the machine that will be doing the work as it will dictate the use of a machine with quite a high gantry,as 3 axis machines go.I suppose it wouldn't be the biggest job to split the solid into slices and bond them together at a later stage.

Same here; both formats opened OK in SW (2016 version), hence my question above. I suggest Colton check import/export dimensions as there may be a scaling factor causing trouble.
