Deck sweeping sails and effective aspect ratio

    Flaunder: This interesting design by Norwegian Fin Utne was built during WW2.
    Based on a CAD model of the drawings, the sail area was 41sqft .

    The sail-deck gap was completely closed when close hauled.
    He claimed that it could maintain adequate steerage-way as close as 20 degrees to the wind (he does not specify true or apparent).
