You guys are making the assumption that, because there are pirates coming out of Somalia, then that means that EVERYONE in Somalia is a pirate, and we should just nuke the entire country. Pull your heads out of your asses.

By the same standard, absolutely everyone in the USA agrees with and supports Barack Obama in absolutely every way, because he's the President of the United States.

 

I can't believe those huge freighters dont carry guns, or are in any way barred from carrying guns in those waters, given the track record of piracy there. It seems so obviously stupid. What did it cost the taxpayers etc for this whole operation, when pirates trying to board such a ship are such sittiing ducks for anyone on the deck with a w2 surplus lee enfield. There were only 4 pirates. At 50 cents a shot that is $2. How does that compare to the cost of the whole military operation. If they knew most ships carried Enfields and would be quick to use them, they would quickly give up their pirate aspirations. Simple problem simple solution? Cant have that! Not enough show and tell for political purposes.

Thats a bit of a sweeping statement Ken, probably a lot of them probably are either on the high seas or high jacking, car jacking, kidnapping or bank robbing, but I couldnt make a statement as definitive as yours.

If they are all pirates though as you state, which therefore becomes 'normal behaviour', does that make it right and through that our action to stop them is immoral and infringing on their moral right to be known as and act as, pirates? We are the wrong doers?

I'm arguing with others on this forum who insist that the best bet is to wipe out the whole country with nuclear weapons -- The kill'em all and let God sort 'em out crowd, which I am NOT a member of. I'm saying that NOT everyone in Somalia is a pirate. I'm saying find out who's a pirate and then turn them into shark bait, but find out first.

 

The problem being that those "poor fishermen" may well have RPG as well - or - the next boat to speedily come to the pirates rescue will have and WILL shoot then scoot and let the containers of loot and the dead bodies of the crew wash onto shore.... Small unmaned aircraft firing 20MM rockete could blow up and burn all their ribs while they are beached or tied up in a bay. Their larger mother craft can be destroyed by hellfire missles. They also have to come into port or land sometime. Soon, no boats so no pirates. We already have some of these planes in Djiboute and don't know why we are not using them. I was just thinking, the place where you live is totally different from ours, that is why you don't understand the mentality or what is really going on.

That is the problem with most of the first world countries. If you have not lived between them then it can be hard to understand. Let me try and explain, I did before somewhere.

We have a scrap yard where various materials and also machinery like old photo copiers are disposed of. Some of these have nice motors in them. The philamons take the motors out and smash them with stones to get the copper wire out. This they sell for about R 1 to R2. I offered them R 10 for each motor.

They don't keep the motors for me. They want to smash it and get the 1 or 2 rand for it. If you can understand that then you are on their level, I can't.

It is so with everything. They provide nothing for the tomorrow. They will eat everything there is until the last crumb is gone, then they will look for more elsewher. If they worked somewhere and got paid they will stay away until they have no more money, then they will look for work again.

Everything that goes right or that works well in our country they want the glory for, although none of it was their initiative. Everything that goes wrong, and it is mostly their own neglect and incompetence, they blame the whites for.

The general mind set is that the whites MUST give them work. It is however their right to steal whatever they can from their employer. They have zero technical skills. They have no desire to learn and improve themselves. Our school system standard has been lowered so they can pass, they do not pass pilot tests, they buy their pilot licenses. They do not design anything. Nothing.

Buildings are neglected, gets taken over by whoever wants to live in it, windows smashed and fires made in the buildings. Our roads are pathetic, full of potholes. We have water problems, we have food problems, we have power problems. None of the major services have whites in to manage, they all got fired and replaced by corrupt blacks. Corruption is on the order of the day. There are so much of it it is hilarious.

Burglars break into house, police is called. The same burglar is the police that investigate the burglary. If you phone the police they are buzy, if you got shot they have no one to assist you, someone I know layed bleeding 3 hours in his house before an ambulance pitched. Council officials pay their own salary, R 80k pm, but stay home, does not bother to go to work. You cannot reach the council, the phone is either not answered or they just put you on hold.

More than 2000 white farmers have been killed here to now, now that the food problems starts, guess who gets blamed. After 15 years in power there is still not a single one of them that has succeeded in a producing farm, despite gov funding and despite that they have been GIVEN the prime farms.

Short of it is they don't give a **** about anything other than themselves. They are incompetent scavenging thieves and murderers.

Bottom line in this whole saga is that if you allow them to begin to dominate anything elsewhere, like the piracy begins to do boating the world over, then expect your world to begin to crumble around you. The non-pirates you save today will be the pirates of tomorrow, and as long as they are there they will continue the currently lucid trend.

Tell me, if you are a pirate and you go about in your countries waters raiding boats, will your country allow it ? Now why does the somali gov allow it ?
