www.noonsite.com , you just have to check this site before you go to any destination, pirates issues, customs, etc are dealt.
my wife was in a pirated boat, negociations were successfull, the pirates had the full package of arms aimed at them, no way could they have won a fight.
You need to assess each situation with a smart attitude depending on the destination. IE we were pirated in our car in a very well known tourist destination country. I have asked my veterinarian to come up with a skunk smell solution ... who can hide after that ? My neighbor is a Kevlar expert and we are working on a bullet proof design, huricane proof as well ...

To be used as what, a helmet, vest, sleeping bag?
Kevlar reinforcement is not quite new.
But a Hurricane proof vest, or helmet, that would be new.:p
And the noonsite is well known in the bluewater community, thanks. But what does it help? It just tells us what happened (good to know) but not what will occur next day.

it is called a stormroom on dupont web site. It basically works like a hockey net, it absorbs the energy of the projectile. Netting Kevlar in a diagonal way and using multi layers will create impressive results at the shooting range. Remember Kevlar dislikes water and UV rays , so you will need to protect it. In some way, a Kevlar reinforced cabin will likely be safer, very light. This is part of a passive protection scheme against pirates.

Kevlar will not stop a rocket propelled grenade. These people are crazy and will kill for no reason. Passive sytems will not work. Check out the shotgun I posted on the topic awhile back and shoot to kill when they are 200 meters away.
I found the posting. enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=p4ebtj1jR7c&NR=1

Follow the boats home every day of the week and shoot them in their beds. Lets make it quite clear, if they go into designated shipping lanes, they aint going home.

I´m shure that is the only solution (and will happen in the far future), but I´m as shure the authorities will need another century to come to that conclusion.

7 layers of Kevar wil stop any pistol bullet, that is not teflon coated. 21 layers of Kevalr won't stop the average 30 calibre soft point rifle bullet. No stopping hard point bullets.
