Help identifying old windvane self-steering rig

I just purchased a windvane for my sailboat . . . it's an oldie but has done many miles without letting the owner down. It's been from Canada to New Zealand and back as well as Canada to Fiji and back reliably. The owner has retired from the cruising life and just wants the storage room back. I have no idea the make - and neither did the previous owner. I have one photo.

 

I think it is most probably a home made 'one off' model, rather than a recognised 'make' as such.

There are a wide variety of books about wind vane self steering on Amazon - one of the 'older' books (eg those from the AYRS) might have details of plans for home construction of a wind vane (maybe yours originated with the AYRS?).

Thanks for the reply - the person I bought it from didn't seem to know that much about it. He says he's only seen one or two other examples in marinas in California quite a while back. I'll check out the AYRS lead you provided.
