    Hello,
    I have a catalina C15 in need of some repairs and have a few questions regarding stringer repair. I have studied extensively all of the threads on this forum related to coronado 15 and am now prepared to take on my own project. I have basic fiberglass skills from years of fixing my surfboards and I also have the necessary wood working skills and tools. What I have not done is combined this knowledge and applied it to a boat so I am very excited and in need of any advice given.

    My boat "Seabreeze" is a 1988 in great condition externally and fairly good condition internally from what I can see now other than the oil canning. The oil canning is due to the trailer not being properly fit to the boat. All the weight was on the two bunks which were 5 foot 2x4. The two keel rollers were not touching the boat. I purchased this boat without noticing this problem but i do not regret the purchase and am confident I can fix it with hopefully a bit of advice. I have already repaired the trailer and it is ready to be properly fit to the repaired hull.

    The oil canning is minor and when it's not on the trailer is less than 1 inch of concave and there is no cracking around the area. Here are some photos.

    I know that I need to cut open the cockpit sole to push the hull back into shape remove the compromised foam stringers and add new stringers. While it's open I want to do some of the upgrades canracer and 5monkeys did to their boats. Those upgrades include replacing the keelson and compression post as well as tying it in to the centerboard trunk. I also want to make sure the cockpit stringers are glassed to the hull. After this repair I will then add the new bulkheads under the chain plates from the inside front hatch. This photo of 5monkeys bulkheads looks nice and I am planning a similar design on the Seabreeze.

    I copied these photos from canracer and this is where my main question comes in. Are these internal frames the best way to reinstall the cutout sections of the cockpit sole or is there a different method that would benefit me? I suppose I should run my new stringers from near the transom to just forward of the centerboard trunk; I may need to cut out a section of cockpit sole aft of the traveler as well if that is the case. What material do I need to use for these stringers?

    The last project will be a bulkhead to connect the bow deck to the hull after the chainplate bulkheads.

    I bought a 2nd C15 with a horrible hull for the sails, rig and trailer. I cut the hull up for disposal and was able to see what the inside of these boats look like. Here are a few pictures of that as well.

    I am eager to get started, I will soon be ordering all the necessary supplies. The experience gained in the repair will be just as valuable to me as the boat itself. To anyone who read this and chooses to respond, thank you.

    Too long didn't read;
    What is the best way to reinstall cut out sections of the cockpit sole?
    What material should my stringers be made of?
    Can you recommend any reading material or advice about bulkhead installation and preventing cracks in the fiberglass on the exterior?
