    Iguana is served as a broth to sick people throughout the carribean and central america, as a restorative. i don't believe the iguana flesh is anymore nutritive than any other meat except it is wild game, and probably less saturated with hormones and chemicals.
    I bought a dead iguana for my crew, at their request, while we stopped for fuel in St Eustatius, in the west indies. It had been shot, evicerated, beheaded and completely frozen in a deep freeze. A couple days later, my crew reluctantly informed me they had thrown the creature overboard. I asked why.
    They claimed it was still alive, and had tried to claw them when they tried to skin it!
    Must of been purely nerves under the skin just reacting to the skin being peeled off.
    Anyway, didn't eat that one, but have eaten others. Definitely dead ones! :)

    They say the male gator eats more than 90% of the newly hatched baby gators, so lift you glasses and toast the bull gator. If not for him we really WOULD be arse deep in aligators! :)

    Boeuf Bourguignon.

    Very much my kind of cooking. Some beef, a cup of red wine, two cups of beef stock, some carrots, celery and onion, a little garlic, bay leaf, thyme and pepper corns. Let it gurgle on a gentle flame until I'm good and ready and in the mood to to eat.

    Trust the French language to sexy-up the most basic of stews. Frankly I would have preferred to drink the wine rather than add it to the pot.

    Exactly why I was asking about camp stoves. Being of Hungarian heritage, gulyásleves, lecsó, pörkölt and pretty much any type of főzelék or húsleves would be a convenient on-beach possibility for large numbers provided the bloody police don't intrude on dinner.

    Cooking or consuming alcohol on a beach in Victoria is an offence. Very uncivilised, I'm sure you'll agree.

    As my project moves along, I'm beginning to dread meal times. Between my boat, it's "stunt double twin", and the support boat, It occurs to me that I'll be feeding 11 people for a considerable period of time.

    Add some potato mash, beans and crusty bread to this Boeuf Bourguignon... and I'm a very happy man. As would many be.

    I had a little tartare au poireux yesterday and a nice glass of chatue de la plonk.

    James you vegies are cut a bit too big for my liking. I think youlle find a smaller thinner carrot is sweater, at that thickness I think youlle find they are little woody but with all the spices you have used you might get away with it.

    Hey there 'pipe' is it you or your 'carrot' that is short - thick - not tasty & a tad woody ???

    I'll bet it's a long - long time since your 'carrot' was smaller, thinner & sweater

    The pic is rather deceptive. I chose this particular skillet for it's size, to serve two perfectly. The carrots are in fact "chunky" not not as large as you might think.

    Looks tasty to me. Coming from a past full of French Canadian cooking it hits a homey warm spot. A nice French onion soup would go well with that.

    Ah --I thought you had zoomed in a bit too far. Its a common fault.

    However I think I would have quartered those carrots.

    I notice you did not add salt but I guess the beef stock would have been sufficient and yet I find them too salty for me.

    With the weather cold and wet, I have a 3kg bag of onions for just that very purpose. A French onion soup would really hit the spot.

    Onions are carcinogenic and can cause indigestion in a lot of people.

    I would suggest leeks.

    You can suggest anything you like. It doesn't mean I'm going to wade in the bland and shallow waters of english cooking, Janie Oliver aside.

    Brown onions have been eaten by the French and may others for quite some time without a cigarette packet type cancer warning being attached to the bag.

    I think I'l enjoy my onion soup without concerns about cancer or carcinogens.

    I am still rather concerned about your anus injury (how big was he exactly), and your visits to ports of call for foreign navies. I trust you're back at work and you've recovered from this rather physically taxing "date".

    Sorry James your all wrong but mostly on the work thing. Hav'nt worked for 24 years. Probably something you'lle never achieve as ,long as you stay in your bed sit in Kings Cross.

    Your concern in my anus is getting a little boring but you still keep bashing at anus jokes --as Im sure your prone to do..

    But surely leeks are so much more mature, woul'dnt you say...

    Oh by the way its the Mardi Gra soon isnt it. Will you be making something, Im sure something will come up when you see your friends.

    Do you honestly believe that a dead Igwana without a head and that had been frozen for probably months would show nervous reaction?

    It shows the quality of crew or --- you.

    Maybe a ghost.....
