Funny how people love to badmouth McDonald's all over the world -- but no matter what country they build an outlet in, people line up and buy the food.:)

Popularity does not equal quality :p

It is amazing what aggressive marketing and cheap offers can do these days :D ...mind you, just image what a little bit of real education about food quality and dietary nutrition to those standing in line would do to such companies

Oh, come on. Stop pretending that people are somehow being coerced into eating at Mickey D's by "aggressive advertising." If they didn't like the food first time, all the advertising in the world wouldn't bring them back.

And I'm betting McDonald's prices and quality aren't really all that low, compared to gyudon or other Japanese fast foods.

I very rarely eat at a McD's here in the states, but I think it's ridiculous to demonize them.

Usually it does. And, in the case of McDonald's it does. It may not be nutritious, or to your taste -- but the ingredients are high quality. Even Twinkies are manufactured using high quality ingredients. You can buy high quality modified food starch and hydrogenated oils -- whether or not they're good for you is up to debate.

Firstly, who said they being coerced??.....

If McD charged $30 for a burger would line of people queuing be the same length? (That's what it cost for a standard decent well made burger at a half decent restaurant/cafe/bistro here in Japan).

In the flyers I get in post, a McD promo of whatever kind is nominally 300Yen, where as a typical obento meal, is nominally 800-1200Yen.

Who is demonising them??...where on earth do you interpret such statements as being demonic...boy you really have a skewed sense of morality when an opinion differs from your own

Some interesting facts, straight from the McDonald's website:

When I make pancakes, I use organic whole wheat flour, skim milk, a whole egg and some baking powder (monocalcium phosphate and baking soda).

    Here is what McDonald's uses:

    Hotcakes (3):
Water, enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), whey powder, yellow corn flour, soybean oil, sugar, whole eggs,
contains 2% or less of the following: leavening (sodium bicarbonate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), dextrose, egg whites, emulsifier (mono-
and diglycerides, propylene glycol monoester, sodium stearoyl lactylate), salt, artificial flavor, xanthan gum, beta carotene (color), soy lecithin (processing aid).

When I make bread (or pizza dough), the ingredients are: Whole wheat flour, 1 tbsp of sugar and yeast, plus enough water to make it the right consistency. That's it. Here's what Mc Donald's uses:

Enriched flour (bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), water, high fructose corn syrup, yeast, barley
malt extract, soybean oil, salt, wheat gluten, contains 2% or less of the following: soybean oil, calcium sulfate, ammonium sulfate, yellow corn flour, dough
conditioners (sodium stearoyl lactylate, datem, ascorbic acid, azodicarbonamide, distilled monoglycerides, monocalcium phosphate, enzymes, calcium peroxide),
turmeric, annatto and paprika extracts (color), natural (plant source) and artificial flavors, caramel color, calcium propionate (preservative), sesame seed.

Bad news for Twinkies. The labor unions have almost beat Hostess Brands into the pavement.

I'm not sure I get your point. McDonald's uses the best diglycerides, propylene glycol monoester, and sodium stearoyl lactylate that money can buy. We were talking about quality -- not nutrition ;)

Seriously ... I've seen RFPs from McDonalds -- their quality standards and tolerances are as stringent as any you'll ever see. It is what it is. And they tell you what it is, as your post affirms. All I'm saying is that every one of those ingredients is of the highest quality.

    I guess it's because I didn't have a point. :D

I was just curious as to the ingredients they used, so I went to the website, which does, indeed list complete ingredients and nutrition information.

I'm sure the propylene glycol monoester (hey, can we make boats with that resin??) is of top quality. They don't want lawsuits. I'm sure their products are the most pure they can possibly buy.

I only posted that stuff because I found it interesting and relevant. No point at all.

"Hostess is trying to persuade a federal bankruptcy judge in New York to allow it to reject existing collective bargaining agreements with the Teamsters and bakers' unions."

It would be funny if it wasn't true.

In a market as competative as fast food outlets I believe nothing anyone says . The filth thrown a round by competitors on foods and additives used is for one reason and we know what that is.

I like Mc Donalds contrary to Troys comment, and I like it because I know I will not get sick, I know what it will taste like , it wont take an hour and I know what it costs.

Try eating some food in a country that does not speak English. This is a difficult concept for an American to grasp but walking in and pointing at stuff trying to get something nice to eat is impossible as helpfull as they may be.

I gave up in Hokong many years ago,--red bloody chicken meat that still smelt of the dead animal was just too much to bare. The missus tried longer than I did as I sold my soul to Mc Donalds.

Mc Donalds toilets are poor, the hand basin is extrememly important in tropical climes yet the toilets of MC is not even on my list.

Some gas stations In Thailand advertize that have the cleanest toilets in Thailand, they are good but the best for public would be Tesco's or any of the other big chain stores.

They at least dont have druggies standing a round and needles sticking out of waster baskets as In USA.

The worst toilets in the world Is Malaysia unless you include India and you realy dont want to do that.

We weren't discussing morality. And I'm not going to get sucked into another round of quibbling with you, where you worry at the edges of my posts like a teething puppy. Let it go.....
