On clear days we could watch the capsules or shuttles taking off from here near the west coast of Central Florida. We are too far to hear the launches but could sometimes get the launch over the radio while we watched. The double sonic booms of the shuttle coming in could be heard from here and sounded like it was right overhead. I saw a night launch from Interstate 4 east of Lakeland once. Those are cool to watch. This video was taken in Titusville May 14, 2010.

One thing I remember is the fire- the sense of shock that it could have happened and why..:

I remember that too and like most of the country, expected to have a memorial of some sort once they ran out of air, but damn if we didn't pull them back. I remember making bets as to if they'd burn up or run out of air first! Glad I was wrong.

Loius Armstrong was great, I loved that tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree.

Another giant leap however you look at it.

The Eagle has landed ( so to speak ) yet again.

And nobody died! Well, not directly anyway.

    Bravo to ALL those involved.

She is good, but it is sad to see a child indoctrinated with myths/fish stories that lead to a life of delusion.

You, of course, have a right to your opinion, same as me. I shall agree to disagree. To me it is not a myth, but it is a fish story, the best ever told.

Not relating to the Mars landing, but relating to another somewhat famous landing,

    RIP Neil Armstrong

Major news story this morning in Australia, goodbye to a reluctant American (worldwide?) hero

Sad to have lost one of the few men who have stood on the moon and looked back at Earth.
    RIP.

Cripes! He's the guy "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." It must be something to have been able to look at the moon and said "Been there, done that!" Well, now he knows The Mystery, as we all will.

Neil Armstrong passed away today from heart surgery complications.

He was the first man to step onto the moon.

At least he got to see us land on Mars!

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

He later disclosed he inadvertantly left the word "a" out between "for" and "man".
