We are building a more modern wooden Colin Archer ketch 45 feet 23 tons. Any other out there on similar boats? These days is all about windvane research and all the electrics. 24 volt solutions- also considering iversons design for ideas

Very nice boat. Was Colin Archer the designer, or did someone else design the boat based on Colin Archer designs?

Post #1 says ‘‘more modern’’. It seems in practice ‘‘Colin Archer’’ has become a kinda generic trademark for the type.

So maybe nowadays only when it says it's a ‘‘Colin Archer - Colin Archer’’ or ‘‘Genuine Colin Archer’’ one can be sure that Colin Archer himself was the designer . . :(

It would be more clear to speak eg of a ‘‘Colin Archer style boat’’ or a ‘‘Colin Archer inspired design’’ or an ‘‘adapted Colin Archer design’’ to indicate the general type when someone else did the design inspired by the type.

    another example of brand genericide

    (large) - (huge) - 200 genuine Bayer® ‘‘Aspirin*’’ 325 mg tablets (NSAID) - vs - 500 ‘‘Aspirin*’’ 325 mg tablets (NSAID)

‘‘ Aspirin* for sale in the U.S., where the store brand can also be sold as aspirin since the trademark was ruled a generic a century ago. ¹ ’’

¹ more so because of the confiscation of Bayer's assets and trademarks after WWI in the countries of the victor nations. (BBC: 'Genericide' Brands destroyed by their own success)
    * the INN (International Nonproprietary Name) of the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) for the active substance in aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid, of which the synthetic form in 1853 was invented by the French chemist Charles Frédéric Gerhardt, however similar natural substances from extracts of the leaves and bark of willows and myrtle are in use for the same purposes for some millennia now, since there's already written about that kind of use in the ± 1543 BC ancient Egyptian medical Ebers Papyrus.
