isn't that they way it always is

I used to say things like this all the time at the coffee shops in boulder and then proceed to have someone from the university chess team eventually come along and humiliate me

works great if your trying to get a game going

    cheers

This one went away, of course. I was able to keep Troy from developing the C1 bishop and D1 rook and that got me the win, even though I was horribly inefficient at closing it. With open files, Troy gets points for scaring me to death with the queen or rook latency in the 8 row. I couldn't dare take a move to allow K escape valve as I felt Troy had potential - if not tempo. An exciting game could have gone either way and I would have likely been crushed if he re-attained tempo. GG, Troy

Then there is this. I have no plan other than survival. If I can trade him down to a rook each, I have a shot.

Sorry I don't show every move, but your mind's eye can connect the dots...Well, Troy's giving notation, too. I don't read it well and need to visualize. Does that make me "left brained"? I hope not - sick.

I've made my last moves for the night; I lined up a rook behind my queen.

Happy thanksgiving, folks. We had ours a day early, because I have to be back at work Thanksgiving evening.

    As one would anticipate.

Troy would have had me attempt to skewer his queen with my f1 rook to e file. Then, a simple slide of his rook to d5 to check and cover his king and my other rook was history! A lessor coup was to have me try for his queen with my other rook but that would have left the 2 row open for destruction.

Mark is being his usual hardheaded self, and refusing to cooperate.:p

Nope. No double time for working on a holiday, because it's a regularly-scheduled work day for me. But I do get eight 'holiday credit' hours, that I can either use as vacation hours or save up to sell back to the company.
