Yep! Good eye. My all time favorite low wing personal airplane! One day when I am old enough to kill myself from neglect I might be able to actually own and fly one... one foot in front of the other till then!

That has always been my favorite civilian small plane.

 

the split tail makes it faster but also gives them a kinda weird cork screw motion is turbid air

helps if you have a cast iron stomach

it can upset a lot of passengers who might not be expecting it but they are great planes and I'd own one is a second if I could

 

I had heard the tail is problematic.

 

Thats why shes called the forked tail docter killer! Alot of people think that if you have alot of money it means you have to pay less attention when your piloting your own airplane. This planes put alot of those folks to bed forever.

well if you skip the landing its not an issue as long as you have a strong stomach

Im fine with it which is why my friend is fine with taking me flying
I pay half the gas and got the copilot position pretty much down

but Im serious about it cork screwing through the air
you can't miss it in rough weather

landing in a quartering wind is a *****

Ive driven through a number of times on the way to Portland
driving through I generally stop in and check the sites and a few national parks along the way but generally Ive been up through Boise on 84
been in the Sawtooth range and I think I stayed at some hot springs in that area somewhere

 

You've been right through my neck of the woods. 84 runs through my town, Caldwell. The sawtooths are amazing. If you ever get a chance you should check out Craters of the Moon. Its an amazing park.

Ill be heading back through there in late spring out of Yellowstone and might just take the back roads through the Sawtooth range just cause its so beautiful

Regarding Craters of the Moon, it's a national momument. Should be a National Park in my opinion however I'm kinda biased.

Incredible extinct lava tubes that are now caves to explore. Extinct cones and miles and miles of preserved ancient lava flow. The things you can find out there are INCREDIBLE. It looks like a baren wasteland if your just driving by however if you stop and take a hike or camp there prepare to be blown away!

in the desert of Arizona there are several parks I was privileged to spend many weeks in exploring

organ pipe national forest and squaro national forest
also I guess the whole senoran desert area
also have these not so ancient lava flows with tubes everywhere
I hung in the chericowa mountain range for two months just exploring about ten years ago

dam there buddy
you just kicked off what just might be my next big vacation spot

thing is you never know what your getting into going into a lava tube
the lava is razor sharp and you really need the right equipment
