How to calculate the underdeck volume in computing suez canal gross tonnage. Can we reduce the breadth of the section in way of heavy stiffeners. If anybody has calculated, please reply.

Tonnage calculations are very simple. It is just internal volume, nothing to do with the structure. But for your 'official' tonnage cert, you'll need to get the that and the value from the Flag state.

    thank you

We are asked to submit the under deck volume for the computation of gross tonnage by the flag state. I have seen some of the suez canal tonnage cert formats, in which underdeck volume has been calculated between DB & Tonnage deck. Even the full breadth of the vessel has not been considered. It is not mentioned specifically anywhere in the suez canal rules, the measurement procedure. If you have any, please attach.

You need to understand the definition of "volume", in the tonnage calculation, and how it applies to your boat and its arrangement.
