    hi,

I'm building a small 16' shanty boat with a catamaran hull. I want to power it with a cheap-ish electric motor (I have plenty of surface for solar).

a cheap trolling motors would fit my requirements (slow, but draw little power), BUT I would like to place all controls in a fore position, and all small electric outboard are tiller only.

Do you know of any electric motor with a remote control conversion kit or something? Are there "generic" conversion kits that could work for an electric motor?

thank you! sorry if some questions sound silly, I'm quite knew to this stuff, much to learn ^_^

You can take apart a trolling motor and add extension wires for the controls. The tiller can be attached to a simple pulley and rope steering, with a drum/steering wheel at the other end.

yep, that's my current best option I guess

for rope steering are there generic kits to adapt, or I have to build something entirely from scratch?

Consider a search, Google is your friend. Amazon and others have many remote option kits available using mechanical and electronic methods, as well as some remote control outboard electric motors. But I have never used any of these and don't know what their limitations are. Some of these may have ratings commentaries by actual users on the pros and cons that may be of help. Might cost less than hiring someone to build a remote steering system.

For a shantyboat with an electric motor, a cable and stick would be cheap and functional.
Do you really need a steering wheel?

You are in Italy. Uflex makes the best cables.
