Well, usually I have them off when not sailing, maybe some short times on with stopped engine.

The problem as I see it is charging if the engine is not pushing the boat.

The few hp it takes , even with a 300A/24V bus alternator will severely underload the 200hp main engine.

If its a car or truck transplant , no turbo , and square cut rings will work better .A true HD industrial conversion will have a harder life than the truck transplant.

The fuel bill will be outrageous as 200 hp really does not like to make under 10hp for very long.

I would rethink the setup if any time anchored is contemplated , a small diesel loaded properly can be quiet and perhaps 5x as efficient.

If you have a fire proof area for one dry stack, the second wont be much bother.

A keel cooler can be used for more than one engine.

FF - am I reading you right that you're suggesting a 2nd engine (generator) for completing the charge when not underway? If so, then I agree wholeheartedly as 4/5 hours charging will never get the batteries anywhere near a full charge with the depth of discharge OP is proposing.

    Tony :)
