Securing Points On Ship Deck To Secure Vehicles

    would you please see the attachment for IMO A.581(14) and explain the reason of limitation for distance of securing points?

    Probably for the horizontal components of the forces exerted on the anchor points do not exceed certain maximum values.:?::?:

    It seems to correspond to the dimensions of mid-size to compact cars.

    You may be right but if so, why the transverse dimension is greater than the longitudinal ?, no sense.
    A car ferry can carry bikes, cars, caravans, trailers, ... entirely different sizes.

    There is more space between the sides of the cars so people can get out. They usually park them bumper to bumper.

    The referred IMO resolution deals with: Guidelines for securing arrangements for the transport of road vehicles on RO-RO ships.
    By setting limitations these guidelines make sure there are enough securing points (enough load distribution) for the vehicles carried on the ship.

    why should not the distance of securing points in transverse direction be less than 2.8m?

    I have no idea. Maybe it's a good question to ask the local representative of the Classification Society.

    if the transverse distance of securing points is at least 2.8m then the angle between web lashing and deck will be less than 30deg. and it's against another rule.

    I do not have that standard, sorry. But besides the ISO organization has banned its standards are shared. ISO charges for its standards.

    do you know who can clarify A.581(14)?
    I do not know 2.5 m is the distance of securing point on deck or between securing points on deck and on car?

    Are you finding a conflict with another rule? The standard takes into consideration the type and design of vehicle. You really need to buy or borrow the rule book, because most rules have links to other rules and regulatory bodies. They are written in straightforward language, so are reasonably easy to understand.

    Standards only consider the wheelbase and track area. In any case the vehicle type or design.

    All regulations of Classification Societies can be downloaded, for free, from their websites. Never have a link with other regulations.


    In general are written in English and I would not dare to say that they are easy to use (understand).
