Looking for CNC routing in Australia.

Hi, I have a glued clinker kayak design that I want to develop as a kit. The idea is that some kayak builders out there might prefer to build without using fibreglass (I know that I do). I am looking for a shop in Australia that can cut parts using a CNC router. Any recommendations?

Both have routers and do contract cutting of a range of materials. The guys at Plate Alloy are currently on their way back from the Sanctuary Cove boat show so you probably won't get a reply until the end of the week.

Either way tell them I sent you and I'm sure they will help you out.

 

what area are you in, Brisbane I know of a yard that would do it most likely

 

I'm at Tumbarumba in the Snowy Mountains, so either Sydney or Melbourne would be OK. Thanks for the suggestions CTMD, I will follow them up. Here is a picture of the kayak in question.

agreed, another thought occurs...

Most cabinet maker / domestic joinery companies have routers. Talk to a couple of the locals and see if anyone can help.

 

Thanks CTMD. I did try my local joinery place, and it looked like a goer initially. They run sophisticated routers that would be perfect. To my surprise, however, they don't have the ability to convert DXF files to gcode. I generated some generic gcode myself, but my joinery place still think it is too much work to make this machine specific for such a small project. I suspect there is an element of "fear of the unknown" at work here. All those curves might be a bit too much for your average cabinet maker!

 

That is why it is obvious when we see a boat fitted out by cabinetmakers, compared to Shipwrights, chalk and cheese.

 

Success. Looks like Compucut in Melbourne will do the cutting for me. They seem to know what they are doing with this stuff and can deal with splines. Thanks for the suggestions. I will post some photos in the work in progress gallery when I get the first kit.
