During the Chinese- Japanese war Ventor Boats made a dozen explosive filled boats for the Chinese. Ventor bolted water skis to the boats to get them to plane easier when loaded with explosives. They molded these skis into the hulls and produced sponsons. One boat was never delivered and was raced in America by Ventor as the JUNO later My Sin which was renamed Tempo VI by Guy Lombardo. These were MONOHULL boats with skis which became 3 point hydros which eventually had the sponsons lenghthened to produce TUNNEL HULL boats. If one of the sponsons floods these boats will float as a MONOHULL.
A CATAMARAN is a vessel with two seperate hulls which are connected by beams. There may not even be a cover or center deck over the beams. The word catamaran means logs tied together. If a sponson on a CATAMARAN floods half of the boat will sink.
CATAMARAN is an air lifted dual hull boat and a TUNNEL HULL is an air lifted MONOHULL boat. Google (history tunnel boats ventor) for complete history.

banging may be softer with a nacelle, you know a sort of sharp V'd middle hull, can even be an add on
oops what did i say, never try'd it, havent even guesstimated it, but "feel" it should work (and is been tryd before)
here a rough quik way to big find what i mean, a sort of middle hull you can stick under, but as alway's,
when the idea seem attractive, calculate and design it first, like they did with the Lockheed P-38 Lightning
that also popped up looking for nacelle pics, ask around planty boats with nacelle's

Cats dig 2 grooves through the water thump a lot in rough water ,Stable and good for fishing boats and sail boats .

Tunnels fly !!!!Tunnels are made to trap pressurised air under and between the hulls and lift it so it has just a small amount of each hull in the water on each side .The faster it goes the better it performs .:D
Tunnels were born from the raceboat side of the ledger !. In saying that as long as it will do 45 mph or more then it leaves the realm of Hydro dynamics and enters aerodynamics and the faster the better because it wants to FLY !!!!!! :p
