Canoe Hull Design

    Can anybody provide me a vector diagram explaining why a flat-hulled canoe has high initial stability and low final stability but a round-hull has low intial stability and high final?

    The diagram you want is in many introductory books, including "Understanding Yacht Design" by Ted Brewer, and introductory boating course materials for the Power Squadron and CG Aux.

    A round bottom canoe will not have high final stability unless it has ballast. Round bottom boats do not have stability unless they are ballasted.

    The BWL and also the shape of the freeboards are important for the stability. Stability is very personal so try to find some personal referenses and compare them to the stability curves of known canoes.
