Can too much knowledge put our heads in a box?

Everyone is educated in something. No one person is well educated in everything. That is why we have specialists. The plumber isn't a surgeon and the surgeon doesn't fix BMW's. The BMW mechanic may know everything about that brand and nothing about Wankel engines, yet all are educated and certified in their specialty.

No matter how smart we think we are there are things we know little or nothing about.
So that makes us all uneducated in some things.

 

education is valuable where ever you find it. It's not the unique perogative of universities. School offer three advantages over self study. discipline. Get the work in on time if you want credit. Two, guidance. So not to go off obsessed in a cul de sac. three Credentials so others can accept you as a luminary. Selecting a good teacher is as important as selection of friends and spouses.
Unfortunately most students can't pick their teachers. So. Discipleship under a dyed in the wool what ever discipline, may be detrimental to later thinking out of the box.

 

How to explain the rare examples of the utterly uneducated doing extraordinary things ?

Doctor called plumber to fix his sink. Job took 5 minutes and plumber presented bill for $50 labor.
Doc was outraged!
$50 for 5 minutes work? That's $1000 an hour! I'm a Doctor and I don't make a $1000 per hour!
Plumber cooly replied, "Neither did I when I was a doctor."

I must say my co-pay last doctor visit was $20 not counting remuneration by insurance company. That visit didn't last 10 minutes.

 

Hmmm.....I make that $600 an hour. Or was that plus tax ? I don't know what dentists charge in the US, but they lead the field in organized robbery here. $600 an hour wouldn't cover it.

 

you're right...50 times 20 is 1000 and 20 times 5 = 100. Don't they have 100 minutes in an hour Down Under? I thoght everybody was on the metric system now.

We were talking firearms today and the story of the Austrian firearms manufacture Glock came up.
Apparently the founder Gaston Glock, was an industry outsider with no firearms experience at all but had a strong polymer background.
His development of the polymer framed Glock pistols has revolutionized modern firearms production by his 'out of the box' thinking:

I worked in the financial industry for a while,but left due to the preponderance of fools and psychopaths with degrees.

Was openly derided due to having no degree-that quieted down quite quickly when I,with no formal education in financial fields, out performed them all by a factor of 100% within 2 weeks and 500% within 6 weeks.
Two months later I quit.

I also hated wearing suits and attending stupid useless boring meetings
