    After looking at past posts about the IPS from Volvo, it was apparent that some contributors had misgivings about tearing off the underwater units too easily.

    I bought the Interphase Twin Scope FLS. Used it for 1,000 miles down the Mississippi. We are very pleased with it. It saved our bacon a couple of times:)

    Do some simple math,
    How fast do you cruise?
    What is the forward reliable range at that velocity?
    At that speed how long before you hit the object and what sort of alarm sound (will you notice it, wonder "What the F...." then "BANG!" to the reply "Oops too late!") ?

    Will it still be under water whilst high speed cruising or mounted in the bow sections high and dry during planning?

    More importantly ,--how long does it take you to stop dead??? Or turn 180 degrees. The whole point of detecting it is to be able to avoid it.

    Personally I look at the charts.
