Can a fibreglass boat skin be too thick so affecting buoyancy?

Hi, My dad had been building a 22ft cabin cruiser. The hull is complete as far as fibreglassing and one side is sanded. The other side isn't sanded due to inaccessibility (he built it in a garage) My dad has now passed away and it is my job to find a new home for the boat. If my dad had added too many layers of fibreglass and resin, could this affect how low the boat will sit once she's fitted out etc. He once mentioned (to my brother) that this is what he had done apparently to make the hull stronger)

 

More weight = deeper in water. That is simple.

How much weight and how deep in the water, and if that can be called "wrong" is totally upon the user.

 

The thickness of the hull shell will effect the displacement of the boat, but not my much. If you have a hull that's suppose to be a 1/4" thick and you made it twice as thick, the extra 1/4" of laminate will make the boat sink down a little, but we're talking fractions of an inch here.

 

Thanks very much for the info. I feel happier about rehoming the boat now. I didn't want to pass on a pig in a poke and thought I may have it cut up.
