    Hello everyone,

I'm seeking some insight and confirmation regarding a project I’m currently working on. Specifically, I want to calculate the diesel consumption of a boat I’m working on. I have access to real-time data on engine speed, rated engine power and speed, as well as the fuel consumption vs. propeller curve, among other parameters.

Based on the data I have, I believe I will need to know the engine's real-time torque to accurately calculate fuel consumption. I’d appreciate it if anyone could confirm whether this is correct, and I would also be grateful for any additional information you think might be relevant to the question at hand.

    Thank you in advance!

It would depend on the engine. Is this a mechanical injection or electronically controlled?

... and various other fuel consumers that may be on board.

Fuel consumption is a nebulous thing, so many variables affect it.
The information you already have should be adequate to estimate tank size, or vessels range.
Don’t forget that electrical/hydraulic machinery affects fuel consumption, as does sea state.
Real time numbers are determined in real time, you won’t know until you go.

If you have fuel consumption vs propeller curve, it should give you an approximate number. Like kapnD said, it depends a lot on sea state, wind direction, loading, etc. If the engine has electronic controls, the fuel consumption is automatically calculated for you.
