Hello all, is Al Plate Grade 5083 suitable to make a Mast Foot welded to an Al mast?
The 5083 is the only available plate where I am and want to know if it stands the marine environment and welding compatibility.
    Thank you in advance.

    Simple answer - yes.
But it is also best to know what grade of alloy the mast is made of first...as this will influence the filler wire you need.
If it is a typical alloy grade for masts it will most likely be 6061 or 6082, however best check first.
In which case if 6061/6082 the 5183 filler wire will be acceptable.

Thank you very much Ad Hoc,
The mast is a standard mast extrusion. The Al. graded can only be guessed as you did. The must is old and the maker is unknown.
Thank you for your help again.
