building a boat! need help!

You can build cheap sails from normal polytarp, works well in small boats.

 

That would be a really good move.

You will not only be getting plans for a boat that works, but you will be joining a large fraternity of mostly amateur boat builders and designers with just enough pro's (self taught and otherwise) to keep the creations within reason.

You will be able to learn a lot about rig design and balance.

 

Oar and outboard motor powered house boat and a 15' cruising sailboat.

 

I'd like to add that the people on this thread that encourage using plans instead of 'vague nautical fantasy' to build a small boat are wise. Remember, your boat could very well be your coffin, so make it well enough to impress Davy Jones.

 

Davy jones is not in lakes though he is only in ocean

 

Davy Jones is waiting for you at the bottom of any cold water deeper than your height as the result is the same if you screw up.

 

cold water? what if its in the tropics?
