    Hi,

A friend and I are considering building a boat. The first reason is of course we like boating, but we also work/weld 5083 on a daily basis. That makes the welding process relatively fast for us. But I must admit; though we have the technical skills for welding and CAD, we lack any boat design experience.

I would like to see some plans and designs to get a feel for how things are designed, what material thicknesses are used, be able to make an estimate for material prices and welding times, etc etc.

Though I really like the design of a pilothouse/fishing boat it doesn't make a lot of sense for the inland waters here. We were looking at a sloop with a cabin, something like this; Waterman 6.0 | Waterman Sloepen https://watermansloepen.nl/producten/waterman-6-0/

    - 6-7m or 20-23ft
    - Outboard(, ideally hidden like in the example)
    - Cabin, enough space for 1 or 2 nights on water
    - Seats 4 people, but sleeping space for only 2
    - No need for trailer ability

Where should we look for such resources and design files? Are these available online or in certain books? For now I don't yet want to give a (paid) design assignment to a designer.

Designs & plans don't have to be like the example. Some detailed plans of boats in similar size / purpose range would help a lot!
P.S. Any designs & plans for an alu pilothouse are still appreciated :)

    Welcome to the Forum A4.

I was a bit baffled at first re your 'sloop', but then I realised that in Dutch a sloep is a motor boat (in English it is a sailing boat).

Here are some links that might help you to choose a design - there is a lot out there on the internet :

Shop - Plans and Kits - Plans by Building Method - Aluminum Construction - Page 1 - Glen-L Marine https://www.glen-l.com/boat-plans-and-kits-catalog/aluminum-construct/

You could maybe put a small cabin on one of these, although it would be better really to buy a design that has a cabin already.

I indeed used Google translate for that. But you got it right!

It is the most common boat around here. Slow boats are a thing here, since it is too crowded on the water anyway and rules don't permit fast boating.

Thanks for all the links, will check those:)
