Built in 1998 in Bira on Sulawesi, this boat is a real South-East-Asian classic with a long history. These boats sailed a century ago till Madagascar and China and had a high reputation for sailing and material quality across Asia. The deck and the interior is made out of Sulawesi teak, the hull and other parts of heavy iron wood. With its three double cabins and two berth in the main room it has enough capacity for charter cruises of any kind. Its LAO is 21,6m, beam is 5m and the draft 1,7m. Using only the engine (Yanmar) the boat reaches a speed of 6,9 kn. It is equipped with 2 Navicom / Icom, 2 GPS fixed / portable and deep sounder. It has four sails with a total of 150 square meters (Marconi / decron). Thanks to the affectionate care of the owner the boat is still in very good condition. It last checkup was in Sept. 2001, the next one will be in Oct. 2002. The boat has lots of storing place, a 2000 l fuel and a 2500 l water tank, 8 batteries, one Generator and 1000W Inverter, one refrigerator, lots of tools and a 4,1m fiberglass dinghy. All together for just 75.000 US$!

    confirmed

Price is confirmed and cannot be reduced anymore. The owner was already thinking about putting the price in Euro rather than in Dollar.

    transport

The transport of the Ketch to Hawai would be around US$ 1.50 per nautical mile incl. insurance (around US$ 18.000.-). This would be transport by shipping. But we can also try to find a crew who just likes to sail this boat and we can get it for sure a lot cheaper. This classic boat is a real dream and it should not be so difficult to find the right persons who would enjoy sailing her to Hawai (maybe myself?). Of course the Ketch has to be prepared for the trip (spare parts, spare sails etc.), but for the boat itself it is no problem.

    Regards

    bugis ketch

    We are VERY interested in purchase of the ketch. we are prepared to sail her from current location to L.A. Two questions;
    1. What sort of "good will" down payment would you accept to insure us as the number one buyer? We are currently assembling the monies, and need approximatley two months.

    2. Are you expierenced enough to skipper the ship from her current location to Hawaii or L.A. with a limited expierence crew? We would be ecstatic to have an expierenced skipper as well as someone who knows the boat well.
    regards

    down payment

About a possible down payment we will contact the owner and ask him. Currently there are two other parties interested in the Ketch. The first is German and wants to take a look at it in the beginning of July, the other American and wants to take a look at the Ketch in August.
As both parties are very interested as well, I don't know which down payment the owner would accept. Anyway, in general we can of course not recommend a down payment before you have even seen the boat with your own eyes! The best would be to make a short trip to Phuket. It would cost you three days, but then you can be sure it is the right boat for you and worth the money and the effort! You could also meet a builder who can prepare the Ketch for the long voyage.
We are confident to find you a good crew for the transfer, but we cannot promise any time frame yet. We will also not start looking for a crew unless the deal is closed. We hope for your understanding.

    euro

    Dear Mr. Ward,

Just to keep you (and whoever visits this site as well) informed: The Germans really like the boat but because the owner put up the price to 85.000 Euro they were not so pleased and are still pondering what they should do now and most probably will not buy her. Also the interested parties from Singapore did not show up yet. So it seems you are at the moment the only interested one.

Anyway, this Ketch is not the only traditional vessel for sale. Please have again a look at our page www.promaritime.com/brokerage.html. We have always new vessels coming in.

    Kind Regards

    regarding the bugis ketch

    Neven,
Excuse the lapse in corespondence. I have been watching the price of the bugis ketch slowly rise, at the same time the boat market has gotten softer and softer. I now have the capitol for purchase, but the 99,000 euro price on the ketch is ridiculous. I was interested in finding out what other traditional vessels of the same size were avalible. I would like to to find one for about 100 k US.
    regards

    Dear Mr. Ward,

Yes, I'm sorry, the price went up because the owner installed a lot of new equippment. I think he is actually sorry as well to sell it and maybe doesn't know what he really wants. I think he is afraid going back and start a new life over there because in Europe the situation is a bit uncertain...

Anyway, as I said, there are vessels for sale as well at: www.promaritime.com/brokerage.html

Hopefully you will find one suitable for you.

But please, before giving up: What would be the last price you would offer for the Ketch? We will ask Eddy a last time then. It's a bit difficult to say, I know, because you never have seen the Ketch yourself...

    Kind Regards

    bugis

    neven,
I would not be willing to go over 100,000 american. I would of course be paying the amount in full, in the form of a wire transfer.
I am still interested in purchasing a vessel. None of the Turkish ships on your site have price listings, a price list would help alot. Also, if you have any other ships in the phuket region like the bugis, I would be interested.
    regards

I will ask Eddy and send you the price list. But the Turkish boats are more expensive than the Bugis one.

It should be just a classic boat, should it?
