Hi , names trevor, new member , new to boat building , new to fibreglassining. Not new to enginering and construction fabricating etc.
I have built a 24 x10 fishing boat , sort of boston whaler desighn with double chine . The boat is currently on a spit I have had the lower part of the hull, below water line, sprayed with gell coat, befor lowering to the ground, but not satisfied with the finnish so.
    First question .
I have been told that the gell coat in my place cannot be sprayed , but i feel pretty sure that i can do a better job with a mohair roller and mayby laying of with a brush, myself, if the product allows it. Gell coat is in a Plain, containeer , and i am unable to coerse any sensible answers from supplier.9
Is gell coat sold as seperate spraying type and brush type ????.
And any tips to finnish gell and flow coating much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

It seems like you are wanting to apply gelcoat as a paint to a finish hull.

    If so WHY?

There's many paints that perform as well or better than gelcoat in many ways. And are much easier to apply and achieve a beautiful finish.

Gelcoating out of a mold is a major pain in the a$$. Brush, roll or spray requires wet sanding and polishing.

There are additives that aid in spraying and other additives that aid brushing or rolling.

What do you want to accomplish with the gelcoat?

The surface of gel coat that has been applied with a roller more resembles nonskid than a car finish. If that works for you, then go for it, if you want a better finish either spray it or use paint, with paint being the better option.

Rolled on my last project, wouldn't do it again. Had to overcoat so much to cut back to fair, was tremendous time and waste. Spray with duratec additive or paint ect time around.
