    Hi,
Sorry I don't know the technical term for it, but is there a way to calculate the angle at which water leaves a transom and rises? For a planing hull. I would assume speed plays into it but not sure what other factors would.
    Thanks

I presume that you are referring to the angle that begins at the transom of a moving boat, and finishes at the still water surface over which the boat has passed.

I reckon that there are quite a few variables involved. If we agree to a fixed speed for a moment, then the displacement of the boat will probably determine the mysterious angle. If we agree to a fixed displacement then the speed of the boat will be the major determinant. Depending on the degree of accuracy that you are after, you might have to calculate the changing displacement caused by things as basic as fuel consumption and the resulting change in displacement.

I am a light boat enthusiast who does not want my boat to make a big hole in the water.....even though the hole behind the boat will fill itself pretty quickly. If I go really fast, my boat will only skim the surface and make a small, long, indenture in the water surface.

Why have you selected that particular question ? There are some fascinating bits of math, physics, and trigonometry involved, I agree.

Yes correct. I was more looking at a ROM value or values. I realize it's going to be changing but I wasn't sure if there was a real world "rule" or anything.
