    do you have any idea on regard to light ship boat?, including;
    a)material used
    b)method of construction
c)effect on design (hull shape, stability, powering & etc)

More specifics are necessary. What size boat or ship? What function?

    Hi Azri,

It's true enough that a little more info can help. but its sound like its something you would like to build yourself,
    as well as potage/lift yourself.

Stretched Canvas or skeleton frame type designs can be very light,
fiberglass and wood can be somewhat heavier, but still movable depending on size.

what we kind of need to know is what type of boat are you thinking of
or perhaps where you would like to use it and when?
I know its a lot to consider but perhaps a good starting point.
    hope this helps.

I forgot to mention the wonderful world of "carbon fibre"

Carbon fibre is not a wonderful world !!
its really not nessasary to use to make light weight boats !!
    its highley over priced
and highly over rated !!
so think long and hard about whats else is availible !! :)
If its durability and robust and hard wearing carbon is deffinity not the product to use !!

    I agree tunnels,
Just didn't feel right leaving it out.
It's just so incredibly light weight.

Used to make surf boat long time ago , They used to race over a long distance on a river so weight was cut as much as possible . a super light ultr stron Carbon tansom was bought along with other items all carbon . its never even made the finish line after flying across the wake of a ski boat on the river and trying to show off the carbon just couldnt take the loads and stresses . I have made a glass transom fo the second boat all from unidirectionall and polyester resin and in the same situation it never even had one stress mark in the gel coat .and the boat was used many times for surf life saving in huge seas . is better to bend and flex but never break !! most important is to understand the materials you have to work with !!Carbon is never on my list !! its is strong it is light but is not durable or robust for everyday use in tough conditions !Glass tells you when its had enough !,Carbon is there and gone !, tells you nothing !!

What do you think of bamboo in small applications, using maybe SOF?

Get real how many people own a minesweeper for heaven sake !!
Even in the early days of Americas cup boats there were some terrible problems with carbon boats untill designers and engineers finally woke to the fact that it does have limitations like everything does !!
Things learned from trying to sink mine sweeper does not apply to smaller real life boats that the ordinary people own !! i heard all this bull dust years ago and it dosent mean a thing . same with coreing hull from gunnel to gunnel with no glass to glass any where !! works for mine sweepers so must work for small boats to !! well sorry it dosent !! . Only have to look at the post about a structual beam glassed to the inner glass skin of a foam cored boat and see what happens !!
How many people on the street can afford to get a proffessional composite designer to design a carbon fibre laminate for there boat ?? not to many !!
