Bondo hull coating

    Ditto Matt's response. But another reason it is used is cosmetic appearance particularly on commercially built hulls for sale. It is often just done above the waterline to mask the weld lines, smooth high and low points, and to give a true clean line above the waterline to meet customer expectations.
