Getting plugs and molds made

Looking for suggestions on who to go to for getting tooling, plugs, and molds made after design completion. Also does anyone have an idea of the cost to do this...35 foot boat with 11 foot beam.

Vector Marine in FL is in the business of making molds for production. Just recently they have been given the contract for making an A-Cat and the Blade F-16 catamaran, and are working with a designer to modify one of his existing designs to F-16 class rules and create new molds (for what will become the G-Cat F-16).

I would guess that a complete set of quality tooling for a 35' boat, including all the small parts would eat up the better part of a million bucks. I know of a new 26' that cost $700,000 and had an estimate of more than a million for a 42' boat.

 

I would think that high-quality hull, interior and deck molds will probably run you about $250-$350k per mold. Add things like flybridge, consoles, custom fittings and you're probably looking at $900-$1000k for the boat tooling. Lower quality tooling can probably be done for as little as $500k but will require constant repair and will not get you uniform quality parts. (US dollars approximate.) You get what you pay for, and if you're doing a lot of hulls the higher expense of good tooling will save you loads of cash on repairs and downtime.
