Info On Old (Circa Mid 70's) Design Sought

    We are currently dialing in a 1978, 20 ft. Brendella hull to the 8 second bracket class and need some information to help us get the setup running safely and consistently at speeds of 125 to 150+ mph. Originally we believed the boat to be a Pickle Fork Tunnel Hull, but, some information has come to us that leads us to question that nomenclature.

    In the mid 70's Ron Ehde and Irv Brendel came up with and built what they called a 20 ft. Pickle Scoop Flat Hull. Originally they used V-Drive Prop units for propulsion, but we're suspecting that the same hull may later have had jet pumps (which is what we are using) installed. While the "Scoop" and "Tunnel" terminologies could be analogous and of no real import, the fiberglass layup is as tunnels are typically layed up uniformly and flatties are not.

    Any information on, or pictures of, the mid 70's Brendella Pickle Scoop Flat (V-Drive, or Jet) that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated as it will help us greatly in our understanding of the boat and our thinking as to any modifications we may, or may not need to undertake.

    About the motor ... in the "About Us" Section of our website we've given some information about the engine and in the picture gallery there are some pictures of various components and shots as it went together. If you have specific question ... please feel free to ask them ... we're a pretty "Open" Team when it comes to sharing information (only a few things we keep "Pretty Close To Our Vests").

    i did like the engine pictures, movie and site but havent finished reading. might have some questions later on engine, transmision and boat. its hot stuf! sorry i havent info on that Pickle Scoop Flat Hull you asked for, maybe someone elso knows. like to learn about it.

    No tranny ... Direct connection to the jet pump via a Lenco shaft.

    i know that hondo and sanger both took hydros and installed jets. not sure how (or if) the hulls were changed. its an inherently bad idea as the hydro needs/wants lift at the stern but jet needs to stay planted. i think both experienced a tendency to lift the nose at high speeds. BTW, there has been one for sale in western montana (i think in boat trader). maybe they could help out.
