Great idea for a thread, Hoyt! I take it you're meaning proper old, not just historic, say at least 500 years ago? 1000?

Anything pre-Marconi would qualify. We could do another thread for anything Marconi forward.

Phenomenal footage of Dragan Harald in the Labrador sea, on the trail of Leif Erikson. The conditions, up to storm force, with icebergs and growlers, demonstrate the capability of the vessel, the toughness for the crew (of mixed experience) and the seamanship and leadership of the skipper.

The Pre-Columbian boats in my area were dugouts. Not likely to find any around here.
The nearest river, the Pithlachascotee, is Timucuan for "canoe chopping place".

I love the history and commentary hidden in place names. Locally to me, why would you ever choose to live in 'Midgehole'? and, rather unkindly, I admit, I am amused when reports of floods come in from surprised punters in 'the Riverside restaurant' and 'Pool in Wharfdale'. The clues in the name. Anyway, back on topic, a sonar survey to produce an accurate chart of Lough Corrib in Ireland, revealed the remains of 12 dugout or log vessels:
