RivNut vs Monel Pop or Blind Rivets

    I had been wondering

    if I should use "pop rivets or Rivnuts to secure a goose neck base to my mast. Both are T6061 x .125 thick.

    I read and re read this thread http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/materials/pop-rivet-vs-screw-stronger-43013.html

    Then it occurred to me that I might use only the rivnut with a grip that will accommodate .250 thickness like a pop rivet, though it appears that its shear strength will be greater.
