No thats not true,-- sw failure =pump keeps sunning with no cooling =fire

    OR

Pump turns off but has small leakage left flowing=flat battery=higher amps=fire.

    OR

Switch leaks as above= flat battery= boat sinks.

I cant think of a more critical item on a boat.

Domestic white goods switches are also not designed for salt water enviroment sooo would they would quickly corrode, seize and sinking the boat is the result.

We delivered a 12m aluminium Roger Hill design CAT to Chinese client, his capt was a driver off traditional wooden fishing boats with no electrical system. Had really good sea sence but hopeless with modern gear.

He was instructed to always leave the bildge pumps and alarms switch on when he moored. He did but doppy bugger switched off everytime he got underway, until recently.
He was several miles out, noticed boat was wallowing getting heavy to std, checked the std engine bay, the hull was half flooded caused by genset inlet hose letting go (jubilee clip left loose) but because the pumps and alarms were turned off he could have lost the boat.

That could be true, but there are hundreds of different brands available of all kinds of materials and most work on air pressure so there is no contact with water. I can't imagine they would be very sensitive at all though, compared to the sensitivity of a float switch.

    OR

Exhaust temperature alarm fails=pvc sewer drain exhaust system melts=boat sinks.

    OR

exhaust temperature alarm fails=cheap plastic exhaust system immediately disintegrates=boat fills with carbon monoxide=everybody dies.

    OR

no alarm to begin with=something happens=everybody dies AND boat sinks.
