    A terrible thing.
The earth shakes, roof's fall, the volcano rumbles and people run to higher ground in fear of another tsunami.
at 6.2 on the richter scale "The quake hit one of the most densely populated places on earth, flattening large swaths of built-up areas."
So far, not to mention the injured, almost 3,000 people dead already, and most probably that figure will rise.

In futility I wish the people of Java and Indonesia, and any of our members who are from there or who have freinds or relatives there, the best.
Though I have never been to Java, my family line traces back there, where my dutch grandfather was born and raised. As the place, its ways and its people were always so close to his heart, so too I was raised with it close to mine. Three years ago, when he passed, he did so in a hospital room that was warmed and blessed by two of his favourite things, paintings of one of Java's towering and smoking Volcano's under which he was raised.
Tonight my problems and worry's shall fade away to nill, as I think of those who have lost so much.

Err....... They have prepared month for the evacuation, I dont think anybody didnt know the volcano gonna blow any moment........ Still some stubborn people have known to stay and guard their home, as theft and bulgar will be common as people go without carry all their belongin......

I trust the government have done their homework and minimized the effect.

The volcano is on the south of Yogyakarta...... the effect of Tsunami if there is one will travel from Java to south pole......... nothing but sea in between....

The whole yogya will be unharmed with minor house destroyed but that is common with earthquake 5.9 . This fury act of mother earth is a common sight in Indonesia..... That why the country is called also the RIM OF FIRE.........

    Wellydeckhand.

P.S. My family is in Semarang only a few in yogya but ok.

Good to hear your OK had me worried a little bit (not so much for the time I knew you'd survive that! but more the mad things your likely to do afterwards to help, no bad thing to do but don't put yourself at risk mate, there's a lot of people worried about you - we do care mate honest!!!!) And to everybody else out there who's lost someone or anything we care too and (tho' it sounds hollow) we will try to help, in our way!

And tho' I don't say it often, God Bless you - who ever your God is, may he walk with you all in your hour of need!

Thank you for your care, I do contribute to the effort of the Joyga earthquake in my own way, I believe the govt. will find the best option in the book to deal with the surviver.

Any help from the International can contribute to destinated relief account number at govt bank such as BRI and BNI.

I am sadden but life must go on for the living..........:(

Borobudur seem in ok, its the Candi that have stone tumble off, one of the candi actually crumble into a puzzle...... it is a historical lost. They know it is near sesmic activity area but have no knowledge of building earthquake proof building. To Today, around 5000 people have past away from the shake.

Most casualty are from Bantul........ The shake rock from Jogya to Solo.

We all feel sad, but the govt. did warnned and the people didnt listern and make preparation....... or else this can be avoid.

Yes, great lost, they people have been told about the volcano but not the earthquake, it was predicted that Bandung will be the target earthquake area but instead Jogyakarta. That's explained the unprepared casualities and death of that area.

Indonesia is just not prepared for whole large scale accident.

    Condolences to the quake victims

No country are actually prepared when faced with mother nature. When we are expecting a volcano to blow up..it just smoke and earth quake took place..The last time one of those volcanoes blow up..the dust caused haze in Port Dickson..May they rest in peace. Hopefully the aids from every contributor lightened the burden faced by the victims.

Thanks for the uptodate news on the earthquake Welly, sad news indeed, but, dare I say not as bad as first feared - some predicted over 10000 dead - but 'tis the survivors we must look out for! the dead are past caring in this world! look to the future and rebuild and care for the sick and injured - and the world MUST help - it affects us all!

Yes we always predict less.... but in reality more are still in the mist of rubble and dying of sickness and wound........ that is a hard bite at reality.
